Mayor Peter’s Vision

Galesburg has a rich history beginning with its founding in 1837 by abolitionists who created a city and a college (now known as Knox College). The history since that founding includes contributions from people from many ethnicities and religions.

 I am very optimistic about Galesburg’s future. I firmly believe that “we can make Galesburg the best city in the world…we just have to want to.” By “best city” I mean a city where everyone is respected and treated humanely, where everyone has great economic opportunity, where all people feel safe and secure, where everyone can enjoy neighborhoods, parks, arts, music, food, and recreation during their leisure time, and where everyone can sincerely say, “I love Galesburg and its people.” 

We don’t just need to dream all this; we are making all this happen, working together.

We are Galesburg.
